Barcelona president Joan Laporta admitted that Liverpool took advantage of the financial crisis that his club went through and overcame him in a special deal
Barcelona made many offensive deals in the past two seasons, including Ferran Torres, Rafinha, Memphis Depay, Pierre Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski
Laporta confirmed, in statements published by the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, that his club tried to sign Colombian Luis Diaz, the current Liverpool player, when he was a player in Porto, before Liverpool intervened to kidnap him
Laporta said, “We tried to include Diaz in race time, but Liverpool entered the deal and outperformed us
He added, “We thought strongly about contracting him and bringing him to Barcelona, but we were facing a major economic crisis, so Liverpool took advantage of the situation and outperformed us
He added: “Liverpool was ahead of us, but Luis Diaz is a great player and from this point of view he belongs to Liverpool and I cannot speak more about this
In the same transfer window that Luis Diaz signed with Liverpool, Barcelona signed Ferran Torres from Manchester City, for a fixed amount of 55 million euros plus 10 million variables
